Sarah’s Green Bay bungalow had charm and street appeal in spades, but inside, it told a different story. With no dining room, cramped bedrooms without storage, and no second bathroom, the home struggled to meet her needs. Entertaining was out of the question, and planning for a growing family seemed impossible.

The generous section offered our team the perfect canvas to reimagine Sarah’s space with a thoughtful single-level extension. We added two spacious bedrooms, a walk-in robe, and a luxurious ensuite to bring style and comfort. A dedicated laundry room introduced much-needed practicality, while the small study was transformed into a cozy dining room—a warm, inviting space for family meals and entertaining friends.

Every detail was expertly handled by our trusted partners at Hurley Architects and our dedicated client relationship manager, Emily. Sarah didn’t have to lift a finger. From preserving the unique features that made her home special, to securing works over approval for building near the stormwater manhole close to her extension, to coordinating engineers, surveyors, and submitting the building consent application, we managed it all seamlessly. By taking care of the red tape, we ensured that Sarah could focus on the exciting journey of transforming her home without the stress of logistics. Let’s be honest – shopping for tiles, fixtures and fittings for your new ensuite is way more fun than paperwork!

One of the most challenging parts of the project was tying the extension into Sarah’s existing verandah, which was one of her (and our) favourite parts of her home. Alvin came up with the perfect detail (we won’t bore you with the technical details) that allowed for seamless integration and meant that the new master bedroom could flow onto the verandah, creating the perfect space for a coffee in the morning.

During construction, Sarah saw the perfect opportunity to say goodbye to her home’s dark duck egg blue exterior. She chose a peaceful light gray, giving her home a fresh, modern look. While the interior painting was part of our original scope, Sarah roped in her friends for a few fun painting weekends. This allowed her to reallocate the budget toward repainting her exterior, achieving a fully transformed home for the cost of the extension painting. Many of our clients appreciate having a bit of budget flexibility, and we’re always happy to do what we can to help bring their home extension vision to life.

Looking at the completed extension now, it’s hard to believe that it wasn’t always there. From the timber joinery, to the fretwork on the verandah which had to be hand cut on-site to achieve an exact match, you really can’t tell where the old ends and the new begins. The journey wasn’t just about transforming Sarah’s bungalow, but creating a home that reflected her lifestyle and future plans. With the addition of two spacious bedrooms and a seamless blend of old and new, the result is a space that truly works for her. Sarah’s new fur child Molly, loves the extra spots of sunshine to curl up in, while she enjoy’s the modern comforts and charming character that he redesigned bungalow offers. It’s projects like these that remind us who we love what we do!
